Jorge Ferreira da Costa Ortiga (born March 5, 1944 in Brufe , Portugal ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman, Archbishop of Braga and Primate of Portugal .

Life

Jorge Ferreira da Costa Ortiga received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Braga on July 9, 1967 .

On November 9, 1987 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Nova Barbara and ordered him to auxiliary bishop in Braga. The Archbishop of Braga, Eurico Dias Nogueira , donated him episcopal ordination on January 3, 1988 ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Lamego , António de Castro Xavier Monteiro , and the auxiliary bishop in Braga, Carlos Pinheiro . On June 5, 1999, John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Braga and thus Roman Catholic Primate of Portugal.

From 2005 to 2011 Jorge Ferreira da Costa Ortiga was also chairman of the Portuguese Bishops' Conference .

In 2012 he was accepted as a Grand Officer in the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
