Carlos Pinheiro

Carlos Francisco Martins Pinheiro (born May 30, 1925 in Vila Praia de Âncora , Portugal; † June 4, 2010 ibid) was auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Braga .

Life

After attending the Seminário de Nossa Senhora da Conceição in Braga , he began studying philosophy and Catholic theology at the Seminário Conciliar de Braga in 1947 and was also the director of Cenáculo , the seminary newspaper. After his ordination on July 8, 1951, he became Prefect, Professor and Economist of the Philosophical Seminary of Braga. In 1953 he was appointed coadjutor of the parish of Ponte de Lima as well as chaplain of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia hospital and the Colégio D. Maria Pia . The following year he was first pastor of the parish of Ponte de Lima and then of Feitosa e Arca, before he became archpriest of the Julgado Eclesiástico of Ponte de Lima in 1958 and then head of the canons of Sé Primaz zu Braga. During the following twenty years he was not only responsible for the parish of Ponte de Lima, but also deputy for the Santa Casa da Misericórdia hospital and president of the directorate of S. José. During this time he was also the founder of the Museu dos Terceiros and the Instituto Limiano and the organizer of numerous exhibitions in collaboration with the Museu Nacional de Soares dos Reis and the Foundation (Fundação) Calouste Gulbenkian .

In 1978 he was appointed Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Braga. He was also pastor of Viano do Castelo, judge at the ecclesiastical court and at the same time president of the archbishopric commission for art and culture.

On February 22, 1985 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Dumium and ordered him to auxiliary bishop in Braga. The episcopal ordination received his Archbishop Eurico Dias Nogueira on April 28 of that year; Co- consecrators were Júlio Tavares Rebimbas , Archbishop of Porto, and Armindo Lopes Coelho , Bishop of Viana do Castelo. He was President of the Diocesan Commission for Ecclesiastical Art and Works and Archpriest of Vila do Conde , Póvoa de Varzim , Esposende , Barcelos and Vila Verde . In addition, he was a member of the Comissão Episcopal Mista Bispos-Religiosos.

On November 10, 2000, John Paul II accepted his resignation because of his age.
