Peadar Ó hAnnracháin

Peadar Ó hAnnracháin (born October 29, 1873 in Skibbereen , Ireland , † March 29, 1965 in Baldoyle , Dublin ) was an Irish writer and playwright .

Life

Peadar Ó hAnnracháin, anglicized Peter Hourihane , was the son of John Hourihane and Mary Donovan Hourihane. At the turn of the century he joined the Conradh na Gaeilge association and henceforth campaigned for the preservation of the Irish language . During the Irish War of Independence from 1919 to 1921 he was interned in Reading , Wakefield and Beare Island . He then worked as a journalist for several Irish and English language newspapers. In parallel, he published poems, short stories and novels in English and especially in Irish. His play Stiana , published in 1944, premiered on March 26, 1944 at the Abbey Theater .

On November 20, 1919 he married Máire Desmond, with whom he had six children, including the actor Kieron Moore (1924-2007).
