Dornelas do Zêzere is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district of Pampilhosa da Serra . It has 682 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

history
The place was first mentioned in writing during the reign of King D Dinis (1279-1325). Since then the community has belonged to the district of Fajão , only to be assigned to the district of Pampilhosa da Serra after its dissolution in the course of the administrative reform of 1855. On December 20, 1927, the place received its name by law, in which it was renamed Dornelas do Zêzere (Eng .: Dornelas am Zêzere).
Culture and sights
Next to the chapel Capela de São Miguel from the early 17th century, in which u. a. Mannerist altarpieces can be seen, the parish church ( Igreja Paroquial de Dornelas do Zêzere , also Igreja de Nossa Senhora das Neves ) is worth seeing. The single-nave baroque church was originally built in the 17th century and renovated and rebuilt several times. It contains rococo relics, partially gilded ( Talha Dourada ) coffered ceilings , walls lined with azulejos , side chapels, and various sculptures and representations of saints. Both churches are under monument protection.
The place is hardly touched by tourism, offers accommodation in accommodation facilities of rural tourism . Also canoeing and hiking through the surrounding, unspoilt nature offered.
