Bernd Zolitschka

Bernd Zolitschka (born May 9, 1959 in Empelde ) is a German geographer and professor of physical geography at the University of Bremen .

From 1986 Zolitschka was a doctoral candidate at the University of Trier . After graduation (1990) he worked as a researcher until 1994, interrupted by a stay as a visiting professor at the Climate System Research Center of the University of Massachusetts from 1991 to 1992. From 1994 to 2000, Bernd Zolitschka a scientist at the Research Center for Geosciences in Potsdam active and taught at the University of Potsdam , where he completed his habilitation in geosciences in 1997 . Since 2000 he has been professor for physical geography with a focus on geomorphology and polar research and teaches and researches at the Institute for Geography at the University of Bremen . There he heads the GEOPOLAR working group . Bernd Zolitschka's research focus is on the reconstruction of global environmental changes with a special focus on the influence of paleoclimate and humans. He prefers to use seasonal layered lake sediments (varvae) as a natural climate archive with high temporal resolution. In this context he was co-coordinator of the PAGES Varves Working Group .
