George Jenkins
George Clarke Jenkins (born November 19, 1908 in Baltimore , Maryland , † April 6, 2007 in Santa Monica , California ) was an American art director and production designer who once won the Oscar for best production design .
Life
Jenkins began his career as an art director and production designer in Hollywood's film industry The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) and was involved in the staging of over forty films until 1990.
At the 1977 Academy Awards , he and George Gaines won the Oscar for Best Production Design in The Untouchables (1976) by Alan J. Pakula with Dustin Hoffman , Robert Redford and Jack Warden in the leading roles . He was also nominated for the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA Film Award) for best production design for these films .
In 1980 he and Arthur Jeph Parker received an Oscar nomination for Best Production Design in The China Syndrome (1979) by James Bridges with Jane Fonda , Jack Lemmon and Michael Douglas . For his services to the film industry, Jenkins was also appointed a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as representative of the art directors .
