José Francisco Sanches Alves (born April 20, 1941 in Lageosa da Raia , Portugal ) is a Portuguese clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Évora .

Life

José Francisco Sanches Alves received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Évora on July 3, 1966 .

On 7 March 1998 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Hierpiniana and ordered him to auxiliary bishop in Lisbon . The Archbishop of Évora, Maurílio Jorge Quintal de Gouveia , donated him episcopal ordination on May 31 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Patriarch of Lisbon, José da Cruz Policarpo , and the Bishop of Faro , Manuel Madureira Dias . Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Portalegre-Castelo Branco on April 22, 2004 . On January 8, 2008 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Archbishop of Évora.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on June 26, 2018.

He is the Prior of the Southern Province of the Lieutenancy Portugal of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
