Russ Mayberry

Russell Mayberry (born December 22, 1925 in Glasgow , Scotland , † July 27, 2012 in Fort Collins , Colorado ) was an American film director of Scottish descent.

Life

Russell Mayberry served as a fighter pilot during World War II . He then immigrated to the USA, where he studied at Northwestern University in Chicago . He then started his film career at WBKB in Chicago. He was able to assert himself as a film director for several television series from the late 1960s. His work took him back to Chicago via Memphis and New York City and then to Los Angeles . By the late 1980s, he made dozens of episodes of television series such as Charming Jeannie , Kojak - Use in Manhattan , Magnum and Matlock .

His directorial work on the episode The Code of Honor of the series Star Trek: The Next Generation has been heavily criticized: According to Wil Wheaton , Mayberry's work was responsible for this episode being perceived as racist.

On the side, he also directed a few television films such as The 3000-Mile Hunt , King Arthur and the Astronaut and Father Doesn't Give Up.

His last directorial work was in 1995. Mayberry directed an episode of the Pointman series with Jack Scalia in the lead role.

Mayberry passed away on July 27, 2012 after a brief illness at the Fort Collins medical center . He was married to Sandy Mayberry until his death. Both had two children together.
