Maurílio Jorge Quintal de Gouveia (born August 5, 1932 in Funchal , Portugal , † March 19, 2019 in Gaula ) was a Portuguese clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Évora .

Life

Maurílio Jorge Quintal de Gouveia was ordained a priest on June 4, 1955 . Pope Paul VI appointed him on November 26, 1973 auxiliary bishop in Lisbon and titular bishop of Sebana .

The Patriarch of Lisbon and Military Vicar of Portugal , António Cardinal Ribeiro , ordained him episcopal on January 13 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were Júlio Tavares Rebimbas , auxiliary bishop in Lisbon , and Manuel Ferreira Cabral , auxiliary bishop in Braga .

On March 21, 1978 he was by Paul VI. Appointed Titular Archbishop of Mitylene and Auxiliary Bishop ad personam in Lisbon. John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Évora on October 17, 1981 . On January 8, 2008, Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.

He was the Prior of the Southern Province of the Lieutenancy Portugal of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
