The diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall ( Latin Dioecesis Alexandrina-Cornubiensis , English Diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall , French Diocèse d'Alexandria-Cornwall ) was a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Canada . The bishopric was in the city of Alexandria .
history
The diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall was on January 21, 1890 by Pope Leo XIII. built from cession of territory by the Archdiocese of Kingston as the diocese of Alexandria in Ontario and subordinated to this as a suffragan . The diocese was renamed on September 17, 1976 in its current name.
Pope Francis united the diocese on April 27, 2018 in persona episcopi with the Archdiocese of Ottawa. On May 6, 2020, Pope Francis fully united the Diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall with the Archdiocese of Ottawa to form the Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall .
