The largest diocese, Montréal, has 1,889,000 Catholics. It is followed by the Archdiocese of Toronto with 1,605,000 and the Archdiocese of Québec with 1,007,766 Catholics. The Roman Catholic Church in Canada is divided into 18 archdiocese and 45 associated suffragan dioceses .

Pope John Paul II visited Canada in 1984, 1987 and 2002.
