The Roman Catholic Diocese of Peterborough ( Latin Dioecesis Peterboroughensis , English Diocese of Peterborough ) is in Canada situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in Peterborough .
history
The diocese of Peterborough was on January 25, 1874 by Pope Pius IX. Established from cession of territory by the Diocese of Kingston as Vicariate Apostolic Northern Canada . The Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Canada was on July 11, 1882 by Pope Leo XIII. raised to the diocese and renamed the diocese of Peterborough . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Kingston as a suffragan . The Diocese of Peterborough gave on September 16, 1904 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Sault Sainte Marie .
