The diocese of Saint Catharines was on November 22, 1958 by Pope John XXIII. established with the Apostolic Constitution Qui Deo volente from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Toronto and the Diocese of Hamilton and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Toronto as a suffragan .
