Thomas Joseph McCarthy (Bishop)
Thomas Joseph McCarthy (born October 4, 1905 , † November 15, 1986 ) was a Canadian Roman Catholic clergyman and the first bishop of Saint Catharines .
Life
Thomas Joseph McCarthy received on 25 May 1929, the sacrament of Holy Orders . On May 5, 1955, Pope Pius XII appointed him Bishop of Nelson . The episcopal ordination donated him on 1 August of the same year Archbishop Giovanni Panico ; Co- consecrators were Ralph Hubert Dignan , Bishop of Sault Sainte Marie , and John Christopher Cody , Bishop of London, Ontario . His inauguration as the first bishop of the newly established diocese of Saint Catharines took place on November 25, 1958.
On July 8, 1978, Bishop McCarthy resigned from office.
