Lionel Gendron PSS (born June 12, 1944 in Saint-Quentin , Canada ) is a Canadian religious and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Saint-Jean-Longueuil .

Life

Lionel Gendron was ordained a priest on May 31, 1969, initially for the Archdiocese of Montréal , but made his profession in the Sulpizian religious community the following year .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on February 11, 2006 auxiliary bishop in Montréal and titular bishop of Tagase . The Archbishop of Montréal, Jean-Claude Cardinal Turcotte , ordained him episcopal on March 25th of the same year; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops in Montréal Jude Saint-Antoine and Anthony Mancini .

On October 28, 2010 he was appointed Bishop of Saint-Jean-Longueuil . In September 2017, he was elected Chairman of the Canadian Bishops' Conference for the 2017-2019 term .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on November 5, 2019.
