The Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth ( Latin Archidioecesis Halifaxiensis-Yarmuthensis , English Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth , French Archidiocèse d'Halifax-Yarmouth ) is a Roman Catholic Archdiocese in Nova Scotia , Canada , with its seat in Halifax .
The Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth was founded on July 4, 1817 as the Vicariate Apostolic of Nova Scotia from the Archdiocese of Québec . On February 15, 1842 it was renamed the Diocese of Halifax and was raised to a diocese . On May 4, 1852 he was appointed an archbishopric .
In 1829 the bishopric was assigned to Charlottetown . In 1844 the Diocese of Arichat , from 1886 Diocese of Antigonish , and in 1853 the Diocese of Yarmouth was founded as suffragan dioceses. Until the establishment of the Apostolic Prefecture of the Bermuda Islands, today's Diocese of Hamilton in Bermuda , in 1953, the Bermuda Islands also belonged to the Archdiocese of Halifax. On December 7, 2011, the merger with the diocese of Yarmouth took place.
The area of the archbishopric includes Queens County , Lunenburg County , Halifax County , Hants County , Cumberland County, and Colchester County .
