The Archdiocese of Québec ( Latin Archidioecesis Quebecensis , French Archidiocèse de Québec ) in Canada is the oldest Roman Catholic diocese in the New World north of Mexico . It was founded in 1658 as the Apostolic Vicariate of New France , made a diocese in 1674 and an archdiocese in 1819.

The diocese lost large parts of its territory with the establishment of the dioceses of Halifax and Kingston in 1817, Winnipeg in 1844, Montréal in 1852 and Chicoutimi in 1878.

The Archbishop of Québec is entitled "Primate of Canada". Cathedral church is Notre-Dame de Québec in Québec .
