Louis-Albert Cardinal Vachon , CC (born February 4, 1912 in Saint-Frédéric , Canada , † September 29, 2006 in Québec , Canada) was Archbishop of Québec from 1981 to 1990 .

Life

Louis-Albert Vachon studied in Quebec the subjects philosophy and Catholic theology and received on 11 June 1938, the sacrament of Holy Orders . As part of further studies , he received his doctorate in theology in Rome . After his return to Canada, he worked as a lecturer at Laval University , where he also took on leadership roles as Vice Rector and Rector from 1960 to 1972 .

In 1960 he was appointed Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Québec . On April 4, 1977, Pope Paul VI appointed him . the titular bishop of Mesarfelta and auxiliary bishop in the archdiocese of Quebec. The episcopal ordination donated him on 14 May of the same year Archbishop Maurice Roy . After he had submitted his resignation to Pope John Paul II when he reached the age limit of 75 , Vachon succeeded him as Archbishop of Quebec in March 1981.

Pope John Paul II accepted him in the consistory of May 25, 1985 as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Paolo della Croce a "Corviale" in the college of cardinals . On March 17, 1990, he resigned from the Archdiocese for reasons of age. For health reasons, he later lived in a retirement home near Quebec for a few years. Cardinal Vachon died in 2006 at the age of 94.
