The Archdiocese of Gatineau ( Latin Archidioecesis Gatinensis , French archidiocèse de Gatineau ) is a in Canada situated Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Gatineau .

history

The Archdiocese of Gatineau was on April 27, 1963 by Pope John XXIII. established from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Ottawa as the Diocese of Hull . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Ottawa as a suffragan . On March 1, 1982, the Diocese of Hull was renamed the Diocese of Gatineau-Hull .

The diocese Gatineau-Hull was raised to an archbishopric on October 31, 1990 by Pope John Paul II . The Archdiocese of Gatineau-Hull was renamed the Archdiocese of Gatineau on October 28, 2005 .
