Paul-Émile Charbonneau

Paul-Émile Charbonneau (born May 4, 1922 in Sainte-Thérèse-de-Blainville , Canada , † May 21, 2014 in Montreal ) was a Canadian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Hull .

Life

Paul-Émile Charbonneau was ordained a priest on May 31, 1947 . He was pastor at the Cathédrale de Saint-Jérôme in Quebec. He was on December 11, 1948 by Pope Pius XII. appointed Grand Officer of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .

Pope John XXIII appointed him on November 15, 1960 titular bishop of Thapsus and auxiliary bishop in Ottawa . The Archbishop of Ottawa, Marie-Joseph Lemieux OP , donated him episcopal ordination on January 18, 1961 ; Co- consecrators were William Joseph Smith , Bishop of Pembroke , and Émilien Frenette , Bishop of Saint-Jérôme .

On May 21, 1963 he was by John XXIII. appointed Bishop of Hull . He was a council father and participant in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council . He was involved in numerous commissions and committees of the Canadian Bishops' Conference (CCCB); Among other things, he was a member of the Standing Committee. On April 12, 1973 Pope Paul VI. his early resignation.
