The Archdiocese of Saint-Boniface ( Latin Archidioecesis Sancti Bonifacii , French archidiocèse de Saint-Boniface ) is in Canada situated Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Saint-Boniface .
history
The Archdiocese of Saint-Boniface was founded on April 16, 1844 by Pope Gregory XVI. Established with the Apostolic Constitution Ex debito from cession of territory of the Archdiocese of Québec as Apostolic Vicariate North-West . On June 4, 1847 the Apostolic Vicariate North-West was by Pope Pius IX. raised to the diocese and renamed the diocese of Saint-Boniface . The diocese of Saint-Boniface gave on April 8, 1862 parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Vicariate Athabaska Mackenzie . Another assignment of territory took place on September 22, 1871 to establish the diocese of Saint Albert .
On September 22, 1871, the diocese of Saint-Boniface was by Pius IX. raised to the archbishopric. The Archdiocese of Saint-Boniface gave up on July 11, 1882 parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Vicariate Pontiac . Further assignments were made on June 4, 1891 to found the Vicariate Apostolic Saskatchewan and on March 4, 1910 to found the Diocese of Regina . On December 4, 1915, the Archdiocese of Saint-Boniface gave parts of its territory to establish the Archdiocese of Winnipeg . Another assignment of territory took place on April 29, 1952 to establish the diocese of Fort William .
