Maurice Baudoux

Maurice Baudoux OC (born July 10, 1902 in La Louvière , Belgium , † July 1, 1988 ) was a Canadian clergyman of the Roman Catholic Church and Archbishop of Saint-Boniface .

Life

Maurice Baudoux came to Canada at the age of nine, studied theology at Laval University and was ordained a priest on July 17, 1929 .

Pope Pius XII appointed him on August 7, 1948 as the first bishop of Saint Paul in Alberta . He was ordained bishop by the Apostolic Delegate in Canada, Ildebrando Antoniutti , on October 28 of the same year; Co - consecrators were Henri-Jean-Marie Prud'homme , Bishop Emeritus of Prince-Albert , and Philip Francis Pocock , Bishop of Saskatoon . On March 4, 1952, he was appointed coadjutor of Saint-Boniface and at the same time appointed titular archbishop of Preslavus . After Arthur Béliveau's death , he succeeded him on September 14, 1955 as Archbishop of Saint-Boniface.

He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council . On September 7, 1974, Pope Paul VI. his age-related resignation.
