Louis-Nazaire Cardinal Bégin (born January 10, 1840 in La Pointe-Lévis , Canada , † July 19, 1925 in Québec ) was Archbishop of Québec .

Louis-Nazaire Bégin studied Catholic theology and philosophy in Québec , Rome and Innsbruck . He received on 10 June 1865, the sacrament of holy orders and received his doctorate a year later in Innsbruck for a doctor of theology . From 1868 to 1877 he taught at Laval University in Québec, from 1877 to 1884 he was prefect at the Seminary of Québec and from 1884 to 1888 he headed a state school.

Pope Leo XIII. appointed him on October 1, 1888 Bishop of Chicoutimi . On October 21 of the same year, the Archbishop of Québec , Cardinal Elzéar-Alexandre Taschereau , donated him episcopal ordination . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Trois Rivières , Louis-François Richer dit Laflèche , and the Bishop of Rimouski , Jean Laforce-Langevin .

On December 18, 1891, he renounced the Diocese of Chicoutimi and was appointed titular bishop of Cyrene . On March 22, 1892 he became coadjutor , in 1894 apostolic administrator and with the death of Cardinal Taschereau on April 12, 1898 his successor as Archbishop of Québec.

Pope Pius X accepted him on May 25, 1914 as a cardinal priest with the titular church Santi Vitale, Gervasio e Protasio in the college of cardinals . Louis-Nazaire Bégin died on July 19, 1925 in Québec and was buried in the crypt of the local cathedral .
