history

Even before it was discovered by Europeans, this area was a settlement and hunting area for First Nations , the Mi'kmaq . Before the county was founded in 1781 and named after the English county of Hampshire , the Acadians settled here . However, these were increasingly displaced from 1760 by English settlers.

Communities

In Hunts County there are the two towns Windsor and Hantsport as well as a First Nations reservation. All other settlements are so-called incorporated villages either in the Municipality of East Hants or the Municipality of West Hants . The administration of these settlements is taken over by the county administration.
