The Region of Queens Municipality is one of the currently three regional municipalities in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia (Nova Scotia). It is located in the southeast of the province and is bordered by Lunenburg County to the west and Annapolis County to the north . It is bordered to the west by Shelburne County and to the northwest by Digby County . The county is located on the south coast of the mainland and thus directly on the Atlantic . It has its administrative center in Liverpool .

In the administrative unit with an area of ​​2,392.85 km² lived 10,917 inhabitants in 2011, which results in a population density of 4.6 inhabitants / km². Compared to the census from 2006, the number of inhabitants has decreased again. The decline in population that has continued since the beginning of the 1990s is continuing and the population has decreased by another 2.3%. In terms of area, the regional municipality is the smallest of the three regional municipalities and it is also rather small compared to the other counties in the province.

In terms of road traffic, the regional municipality is connected to the rest of the province's transport network via Nova Scotia Highway 103 . The area is connected to the air traffic by the Liverpool / South Shore Regional Airport .

history

Even before it was discovered by Europeans, this area was a settlement and hunting area for First Nations , the Mi'kmaq . The regional municipality was only created in 1996 through the merger of the town of Liverpool and the then, in 1762, Queens County .
