Soehnle
The Soehnle brand has been part of Leifheit AG , based in Nassau an der Lahn in Rhineland-Palatinate , since 2001 . The product range today includes industrial, kitchen and personal scales .
history
The company was founded in 1868 by Wilhelm Soehnle (1844–1911) in Murrhardt - where the Wilhelm-Soehnle-Strasse named after him is located. After completing his apprenticeship as a locksmith and mechanic, Wilhelm Soehnle decided to set up a workshop and concentrate on the production of scales . In 1919 the sons Heinrich and Ernst Soehnle took over the Murrhardter scale factory Gebrüder Soehnle . Up until the 1920s, scales were manufactured in the workshop in a purely manual manner. The inclusion of the so-called Reformwaage in May 1930 represented a milestone in the development of the company. These lightweight kitchen scales intended for household use had the typical characteristics of a mass-produced item, so that it was mass- produced for the first time . In 1937 alone, 37,700 of these household scales were produced. Thus it was the main source of sales for a long time, even after the Second World War . Another striking point in the program was the development and production of the first SOEHNLE scales in 1956. This typical affluent product promised rising volumes, higher yields, thereby improving competitiveness. In the years that followed, the development of bathroom scales was so strongly promoted that it quickly became the mainstay of sales. In 1968 - exactly 100 years after it was founded - the management of the company was already in the 3rd generation and could look back on a solid development. With around 500 employees, one million weighing units were manufactured each year. In 1979, electronics began to move in, a combination of precision mechanics with electronic components that is typical for Soehnle. The electronics enabled considerable improvements in quality and accuracy, even in large-scale production . In 1991 a new production record was set with 6 million scales, and in 1992 the 100 millionth Soehnle scale left the production facility in Murrhardt since the company was founded. Scales for the health sector and industrial solutions in the area of weighing technology and sensor technology are offered by Soehnle Industrial Solutions GmbH in Backnang .
In 2001, Leifheit AG acquired the entire Soehnle Group, which most recently had a turnover of 170 million DM (85 million euros) and had 540 employees. Soehnle has sold more than 200 million scales worldwide.
