Remy Grillot

Rémy Grillot (born March 11, 1766 in Navilly , Saône-et-Loire department , † May 19, 1813 in Leipzig ) was a French general of the infantry .

Live and act

Grillot came from a humble background. After a short time in school he tried his hand at various professions as a day laborer . On May 31, 1785, Grillot volunteered for the royal army and joined the Régiment de Picardie . He stood out for his courage and bravery and was also promoted very quickly: Caporal (February 1, 1788), Sergent fourrier (supply sergeant) (March 1, 1790), Sergent-major (July 26, 1791) and Sous-lieutenant (20. May 1792).

As a captain he took part in the siege of Thionville (August 1792) and fought in the Battle of Arlon (June 9, 1793), where he was also wounded. He took part in the battles near Kaiserslautern (November 28/30, 1793) and the Second Battle of Weißenburg (December 26/29, 1793).

After further promotions he fought in the Battle of Aspern (May 21/22, 1809) and the Battle of Wagram (July 5/6, 1809). General Grillot was seriously wounded in the Battle of Großgörschen . He was transported to a French military hospital in Leipzig and operated on. On May 19, he died of the consequences of his leg amputation.
