The Diocese of Mackenzie-Fort Smith ( Latin Dioecesis Mackenziensis-Arcis Smith , English Diocese of Mackenzie-Fort Smith ) is one in Canada situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in Fort Smith .
history
The Diocese of Mackenzie-Fort Smith was created on July 3, 1901 as a result of the division of the Apostolic Vicariate Athabaska Mackenzie as Apostolic Vicariate Mackenzie . The Apostolic Vicariate Mackenzie gave on March 9, 1908 parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture Yukon-Prince Rupert .
The Apostolic Vicariate Mackenzie was on July 13, 1967 by Pope Paul VI. with the Apostolic Constitution Quae ad rei raised to the diocese and renamed the diocese of Mackenzie-Fort Smith . It is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Grouard-McLennan as a suffragan .
