Gabriel Breynat

Gabriel-Joseph-Élie Breynat OMI (born October 6, 1867 in Saint-Vallier-sur-Rhône , France , † March 10, 1954 in Écully ) was a French religious and Roman Catholic Vicar Apostolic of Mackenzie .

Life

Gabriel Breynat joined the religious community of the Oblates of the Immaculate Virgin Mary and made profession on May 24, 1889 . Breynat received on 21 February 1892 by the Apostolic Vicar of Athabasca Mackenzie , Emile Grouard OMI, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On July 31, 1901, Pope Leo XIII appointed him . as Titular Bishop of Adramyttium and first Vicar Apostolic of Mackenzie. The Vicar Apostolic of Athabasca, Émile Grouard OMI, donated him episcopal ordination on April 6, 1902 ; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishop emeritus in Athabasca, Isidore Clut OMI, and the vicar apostolic of Saskatchewan , Albert Pascal OMI.

Pope Pius XII elevated him to archbishop on December 11, 1939 and appointed him titular archbishop of Garella . Gabriel Breynat resigned as Vicar Apostolic of Mackenzie on April 6, 1943.
