history

The Diocese of Churchill-Hudson Bay was on July 11, 1925 by Pope Pius XI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Divini verbi from cession of territory of the Apostolic Vicariate Keewatin as Apostolic Prefecture Baie d'Hudson . The Apostolic Prefecture of Hudson Bay was founded on December 21, 1931 by Pius XI. with the Apostolic Constitution Supremum officium raised to the Apostolic Vicariate . On July 13, 1945, the Vicariate Apostolic Baie d'Hudson gave up parts of its territory to establish the Vicariate Apostolic Labrador .

The Apostolic Vicariate of Baie d'Hudson was founded on July 13, 1967 by Pope Paul VI. raised to the diocese and renamed the diocese Churchill . On January 29, 1968, the Diocese of Churchill was renamed the Diocese of Churchill-Hudson Bay .

The Diocese of Churchill-Hudson Bay is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Keewatin-Le Pas as a suffragan .
