Manfred Stürzbecher

Manfred Stürzbecher (born October 18, 1928 in Berlin ) is a Berlin medical historian and doctor .

Life

Manfred Stürzbecher first studied history , then medicine at the Free University of Berlin and received his doctorate in both subjects (1954 Dr. phil., 1961 Dr. med.). He is also a (non-licensed) pharmacist. His first dissertation in history is already a work in the history of medicine; its topic was combating the decline in the birth rate and infant mortality as reflected in the debates in the Reichstag from 1900 to 1930. His second, medical dissertation also dealt with a topic of medical history, dealing with medical care and the state of health of the Berlin population in the 18th century.

Manfred Stürzbecher has completed several professional positions: he was a doctor in the judicial service, deputy head of the Academy for State Medicine in Hamburg, advisor for medical statistics and medical documentation at the highest state health authority in Berlin, head of the Berlin Medical Central Library and finally a medical officer in Berlin-Steglitz .

Stürzbecher has written several books and compilations and over 500 articles on medical history topics. For a long time he was chairman of the Berlin Society for the History of Medicine . He is one of the best experts on the history of medicine in Berlin.
