Berlin Society for the History of Medicine

The Berlin Society for the History of Medicine is a society for the promotion of medical history research in Berlin .

The society was founded on April 21, 1906 as the Berlin Society for the History of Natural Sciences and Medicine and was called the Berlin Society for the History of Natural Sciences, Medicine and Technology from 1927 until it was given its current name in 1961.

The purpose of the society is to promote scientific research in the field of medical history, including auxiliary sciences and including dentistry , pharmacy and veterinary medicine, and to disseminate its results. To this end, the society holds at least two scientific meetings every year and is also present at the German Science Historians' Day. In addition, the society, at the time in collaboration with the Berlin medical historian Rolf Winau , particularly supports studies on the history of medicine in Berlin.

The current chairman is Volker Hess , the current director of the Institute for the History of Medicine at Charité, Berlin .
