The Diocese of Baie-Comeau ( lat. : Dioecesis sine Comoënsis ) is in Canada situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Baie-Comeau .
history
The diocese of Baie-Comeau was on May 29, 1882 by Pope Leo XIII. from the cession of territory by the Diocese of Rimouski as the Apostolic Prefecture of St. Lawrence Gulf . On September 12, 1905, the Apostolic Prefecture of Saint Lawrence Gulf by Pope Leo XIII. raised to the apostolic vicariate . The Apostolic Vicariate of Saint Lawrence Gulf gave up parts of its territory on July 13, 1945 to establish the Apostolic Vicariate Labrador .
On November 24, 1945, the Apostolic Vicariate Saint Lawrence Gulf was by Pope Pius XII. raised to the diocese. The diocese of St. Lawrence Golf was renamed the Diocese of Hauterive on February 29, 1960 . On July 14, 1986, the name was changed to the Diocese of Baie-Comeau . Parts of the area of the dissolved Diocese Labrador City-Schefferville were annexed to the Diocese of Baie-Comeau on May 31, 2007.
The diocese of Baie-Comeau is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Rimouski as a suffragan .
