Gérard Couturier

Gérard Couturier (* 12. January 1913 in Saint-Louis-du-Ha Ha! , Quebec , Canada ; † 2. February 1999 ) was a Canadian clergyman and bishop of Hauterive .

Life

After studying Catholic theology and philosophy, Gérard Couturier received the sacrament of ordination on March 25, 1938 from the Bishop of Rimouski , Georges-Alexandre Courchesne .

On December 27, 1956, Pope Pius XII appointed him . to the Bishop of St. Lawrence Gulf. The Archbishop of Rimouski, Charles Eugène Parent , donated him episcopal ordination on February 28, 1957 ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Gaspé , Albini LeBlanc , and the auxiliary bishop in Chicoutimi , Marius Paré . The inauguration took place on March 12, 1957. During the tenure of Bishop Gérard Couturier, the cathedral Saint-Jean-Eudes was built.

Gérard Couturier resigned as Bishop of Hauterive on September 7, 1974 for health reasons. He spent his retirement in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts .

Couturier attended all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council .
