Maurice Gee
Maurice Gee (born August 22, 1931 in Whakatāne ) is a New Zealand writer who is best known for his novels . Several of his books have been made into films.
Life
Gee spent much of his childhood in the New Zealand town of Henderson , which appears fictionally in many of his works. In 1954 he completed a degree in English in Auckland and initially worked as a teacher in Paeroa . At the end of the 1950s he published his first short stories. In 1961 he received a literary scholarship and moved to England , where he continued to teach and write. His debut novel The Big Season was published in 1962.
Gee's breakthrough came with the publication of his trilogy Plumb (1978), Meg (1981) and Sole Survivor (1983), which depicts the life of three generations in New Zealand. In 1979 Gee began publishing children's books.
In 2004, two of Gees' novels were filmed: Crime Story (as Fracture ) and In my Father's Den (by Brad McGann ). Under the Mountain was filmed as an eight-part television series in 1982 and for the cinema in 2009.

Above all, critics praise the differentiated portrayal of characters and conflicts.
Gees books for children and young people are often set in the realm of fantasy and science fiction .
