Diocese of Tarentaise
The diocese of Tarentaise (Latin Dioecesis Tarantasiensis ), located in France , was founded in the 5th century as the suffragan seat of the Archdiocese of Vienne and took its seat in the city of Moûtiers . It was elevated to a metropolitan bishopric in 794 . Together with his suffragan bishops, Tarentaise remained under the primacy of the Archbishop of Vienne (Primate of the Primates).

With the Concordat of 1801 , the Archdiocese of Tarentaise was dissolved in the wake of the French Revolution and incorporated into the territory of the Archdiocese of Chambery . On August 5, 1825, it was re-established as the diocese Moûtiers-Tarantaise within the ecclesiastical province of Chambéry. On April 26, 1966 it was re-incorporated into the Archdiocese of Chambéry together with the diocese of Maurienne .
In 1949 the diocese numbered around 50,000 Catholics in 87 parishes . These were looked after by 109 diocesan priests and 5 religious priests , plus 180 religious sisters . It had a size of 2,247 km².
