Bangor Diocese
The Diocese of Bangor or the Diocese of Bangor ( Latin : Dioecesis Bangorensis ) is a diocese of the Anglican Church in Wales with its seat in Bangor (Wales) . It was a Roman Catholic diocese until the English Reformation .
history
The bishopric of Bangor was established in 546. First Bishop was Deiniol . The cathedral was built in the 12th century on the remains of the monastery of Saint Deiniol. The last Roman Catholic bishop, William Glyn , died on May 21, 1558.
The Catholic diocese of Bangor was subordinate to the Archdiocese of Canterbury as a suffragan .
After the English Reformation, the Diocese of Bangor belonged to the ecclesiastical province of Canterbury of the Church of England until the Welsh Anglican Church became independent as a Church in Wales in 1920 .
