Deiniol
Deiniol , Welsh for Daniel , (* approx. 510 in Wales , † approx. 584 in Wales) was a bishop and saint .
He was the son of a Celtic tribal chief and founded two monasteries in Gwynedd in the early 6th century . The first of these in Bangor , after King Maelgwn of Gwynedd had given him the land in question. He later founded a monastery at Bangor-Is-y-Coed (Bangor upon Dee), which was destroyed around 616 by Æthelfrith of Northumbria .
Deiniol attended the Synod of Llanddewi Brefi , where he was ordained Bishop of Bangor by the Welsh national saint , St. David . After his return from the synod he is said to have founded several churches, such as B. in Llandeiniol in Dyfed and in Llanfor and Llanuwchllyn near the Llyn Tegid . After his death his bones were buried on Bardsey Island .
