The Whithorn diocese ( Latin : Dioecesis Candidae Casae ) was a Roman Catholic diocese located in what is now the United Kingdom , with its seat in Whithorn .

history

The Whithorn diocese was established in the first half of the 5th century. The first bishop was Ninian . Around the year 600 the Whithorn diocese was dissolved.

In 1128 the Whithorn diocese was rebuilt. Until 1355, the Whithorn diocese was subordinate to the Archdiocese of York as a suffragan . In 1472 the Whithorn diocese was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Saint Andrews and Edinburgh as a suffragan.

Since 1492 the diocese of Whithorn was subordinate to the Archdiocese of Glasgow as a suffragan.

The last Roman Catholic bishop, Andrew Durie , died in 1558.
