Diocese of Smolensk
The Diocese of Smolensk ( Latin : Dioecesis Smolenscensis ) was a Roman Catholic diocese in what is now Russia , with its seat in Smolensk .
history
The Diocese of Smolensk was established on September 1, 1636 by Pope Urban VIII . The first bishop was Piotr Parczewski . On April 15, 1783, the Diocese of Smolensk was by Pope Pius VI. dissolved and the territory was annexed to the Archdiocese of Mahiljou .
The Diocese of Smolensk was subordinate to the Archdiocese of Gniezno as a suffragan .
The Cathedral of the Annunciation was located in Smolensk.
