Diocese of Toulon
The Diocese of Toulon ( lat. : Dioecesis Tolonensis ) was in southern France located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Toulon .
history
The diocese of Toulon was established in the 4th century. The first bishop was Honoratus . In the 5th century, the Diocese of Toulon was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Aix as a suffragan .
On November 29, 1801, the Diocese of Toulon was dissolved as a result of the Concordat of 1801 by Pope Pius VII with the Papal Bull Qui Christi Domini and its territory was annexed to the Archdiocese of Aix . With the Bourbon restoration , its area was separated from that of Aix and merged with that of the diocese of Fréjus , which now coincides with that of the respective department of Var .
In 1957 the diocese Fréjus was renamed Fréjus-Toulon and the city of Toulon has been the bishopric again since then .
