Diocese of Ypres
The diocese of Ypres ( Latin : Dioecesis Yprensis seu Iprensis ) was a Roman Catholic diocese based in Ypres in what is now the Belgian - French border area.
history
Pope Paul IV founded the diocese with the Bull Super Universas on May 12, 1559 from ceding territories of the dioceses Tournai and Thérouanne and was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Mechelen as a suffragan diocese.
After the Concordat of 1801 , the diocese was integrated into the diocese of Ghent on November 29, 1801 . Ypres has been a titular bishopric since 1969 .
