Diocese of Västerås
The diocese of Västerås ( Swedish Västerås stift ) is one of the thirteen dioceses within the Church of Sweden . It consists of nine church districts , which in turn consist of 77 parishes ( församlingar ).
The first documents from 1164 mention the diocese. Geographically, the diocese extends over the provinces Dalarnas län , Västmanland län and the northern parts of the province Örebro län . It is the third largest diocese in Sweden by area. The bishopric is the city of Västerås with Västerås Cathedral as the episcopal church. From 2008 to 2015 Thomas Söderberg was Bishop of Västerås. He was succeeded in 2015 by Bishop Mikael Mogren .
