Mikael Mogren

Mikael Mogren (born September 6, 1969 in Hammar, Askersund ) is a Swedish Lutheran clergyman . He has been Bishop of the Västerås Diocese in the Church of Sweden since 2015 .

Life

Mogren studied theology in Uppsala, Tübingen and at Harvard University . In 1996 he was ordained pastor in the diocese of Strängnäs . After his doctorate as Dr. theol. in 2004 he worked as a parish priest in Uppsala , interrupted by teaching at the Faculté de théologie protestante in Paris . From 2011 to 2014 he was an adjunct in the diocese of Västerås.

Mogren was elected Bishop of Västerås to succeed Thomas Söderberg and was consecrated by Archbishop Antje Jackelén in Uppsala Cathedral on September 6, 2015 .

Mogren is openly gay in Sweden.
