The Archdiocese of Arles ( Latin : Archdioecesis Arelatensis ) is a former Roman Catholic Archdiocese in southern France . A bishopric was founded in Arelate as early as the 3rd century, in 417 Arles was elevated to a metropolitan bishopric and at that time included all dioceses in the provinces of Alpes Maritimae , Narbonensis II and partly Narbonensis I / Viennensis .

With the Concordat of 1801 , the Archdiocese of Arles was temporarily dissolved. It was restituted in 1817 , but only for five years. The diocese then finally became part of the Archdiocese of Aix .
