Diocese of Elmham
The diocese of Elmham ( Latin : Dioecesis Helmamensis ) was a Roman Catholic diocese in what is now the United Kingdom and has its seat in North Elmham .
history
The Diocese of Elmham was established in 672 by Archbishop Theodore of Canterbury together with the Diocese of Dunwich . It covered parts of East Anglia . In 950, the Diocese of Elmham was dissolved and the territory was merged with the Diocese of Dunwich, with the bishopric remained in Elmham. After the conquest by the Normans , the bishopric was moved to Thetford in 1075 , and then to Norwich in 1094.
The diocese of Elmham was subordinate to the Archdiocese of Canterbury as a suffragan .
In 1969 the diocese of Elmham was re-established as the titular diocese of Elmhama .
