Professional activities
Gaiser learned the profession of journalist as a trainee at Main-Echo in Aschaffenburg and then went to the business department of the Allgäuer Zeitung (then called Der Allgäuer ) in Kempten . He switched to the political department, of which he later became deputy head. In 1967 he went to Vietnam as a freelance correspondent and reported on the escalating Vietnam War for German media .
In the following year he took over the post of deputy head of news department at the Münchner Zeitung tz and later headed its editorial department for miscellaneous and media. In 1972 he went to the evening newspaper as the deputy head of the local editorial team , where, among other things , he gave a forum for those affected in the form of the citizen advocate column where they could address authorities and politicians. In 1974 he switched to television for Bayerischer Rundfunk, for which he worked until his retirement in 2005. Gaiser began as editor of the current department, where he worked for the main news program Abendschau and other news formats. Gaiser later switched to the camera and moderated the Abendschau aktuell, Saturday club, keywords, direct line, art and clutter as well as several interview formats.
In 1988 he took over the management of the editorial office for citizens 'broadcasts and at the same time the moderation of Jetzt red i and citizens ' forum live - two broadcasts in which citizens of a community can address various issues and problems to local politicians who are always present in front of a camera (now red i) or Discuss a current, locally relevant topic with politicians and experts (citizens' forum live). At Jetzt red i , the questions presented are later presented to the responsible members of the Bavarian State Government , who can comment on them in a group staged in the studio and offer remedial action. From 1988 to 2005 he presented now red i over 400 times and more than 220 broadcasts of the Bürgerforum live.
“'Better than professionally worked out successes are human assistance,' says Dietmar Gaiser, who recently received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for this and other programs. A paralyzed woman thanks him, who was helped through his broadcast to receive special paper for a very specific printer, through which she could communicate with the environment. A girl there writes that the school bus now stops in front of his deserted courtyard and that it no longer has to walk that far to school. Gaiser: 'These are successes that count.' "
In 2003 and 2004 Gaiser also moderated the tapping of the first barrel at the Oktoberfest , which was traditionally broadcast live .
