Gerhard Fuchs (born May 29, 1947 in Augsburg ) is a German television journalist and was television director for Bayerischer Rundfunk from 1995 to 2012 .

Life

Fuchs studied economics and journalism at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , as well as communication design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . He received his doctorate in finance from the University of Augsburg .

In 1978 he started his career at BR-Fernsehen in the business editorial department , where he was in charge of the show plusminus . In addition, he moderated the talk show one after the other on ARD and from 1982 to 1985 the daily topics . From 1988 to 2001 he moderated the press club , succeeding Rolf Schmidt-Holtz . In 1990 he became deputy editor-in-chief of BR television, from 1991 to 1993 first editor-in-chief of ARD-aktuell with responsibility for tagesschau , Tagesthemen and wochenspiegel and in 1993 editor-in-chief at BR. In 1995 he became the television director of this broadcaster . In 2001, despite the support of the Bavarian Prime Minister Edmund Stoiber, he was defeated by the then radio director Thomas Gruber in the election of the new BR director . On May 31, 2012, Fuchs retired at the age of 65.

Since 1997 Fuchs has also been an honorary professor and head of the “Documentary Film and Television Journalism” department at the University of Television and Film Munich , and since 2003 he has also been its rector . The office was expanded in 2007 and renamed a part-time presidential office, which he held until September 30, 2015.

Fuchs was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit in 2004 , the Bavarian Constitutional Medal in silver in 1996 , in gold in 2004 and the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon in 1998.
