Rolf Schmidt-Holtz (born August 31, 1948 in Martinsreuth ) is a German journalist and manager .

Life

His journalistic career began in 1977 in the Federal Press Office . He later worked as a reporter and finally as editor-in-chief for the public television broadcaster WDR . He hosted the first "1987 Press Club " in the ARD and had the idea for the WDR-political magazine Z A K . In 1988 he took over as publisher and editor-in-chief of the Stern magazine, which was hit after the scandal over the Hitler diaries . From there he moved to the management of the Bertelsmann television division Ufa in 1994 to negotiate deals with Leo Kirch and others. Finally, he became the “agent for synergy ” on the Bertelsmann executive board in order to advance the search for common business between the group divisions.

From the former press spokesman of the Bertelsmann group, Schmidt-Holtz made it to the board of directors as “Chief Creative Officer” (CCO) until 2000. In January 2001 he became CEO of the Bertelsmann Music Group (BMG), headquartered in New York City , which operates as Sony Music Entertainment after Sony joined and Bertelsmann withdrew . He restructured the company and left in March 2011. In addition to his work for the Bertelsmann Group, Schmidt-Holtz was also a member of the advisory board of the non-profit Bertelsmann Foundation from 1993 to 1996 . From 2005 to 2007 and from 2011 to 2015 he was a member of the Board of Trustees .

Since 2010, Schmidt-Holtz has been one of the four shareholders of the Hanse Ventures incubator together with Bernd Kundrun , Sarik Weber and Jochen Maaß .

On September 11, 2001, Rolf Schmidt-Holtz was in the RTL special program “Terror gegen Amerika” on the occasion of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center with RTL editor-in-chief Peter Kloeppel from New York as an eyewitness. During the live conversation with the television studio in Cologne , he experienced the collapse of the north tower and commented on his impressions for the television viewers.
