Maria von Welser
Maria Freifrau von Welser (born June 26, 1946 in Munich ; née Schüssel ) is a German television journalist and deputy chairwoman of UNICEF Germany.
Life
Maria von Welser grew up as the daughter of the fashion journalist Margarete Schüssel, b. Wilke in Rottach-Egern in Upper Bavaria on the Tegernsee . Her father Eduard M. Schüssel was a merchant, Imperial Japanese Consul and from 1925 owner of Schönwörth Palace . After graduating from high school in Tegernsee in 1967, she graduated from the German School of Journalism in Munich in 1968 . She did an internship at Münchner Merkur from 1969 to 1971 . She worked as a local journalist for Seegeist , a local edition of Münchner Merkurs. She then worked for six years for the tabloid Abendzeitung in Munich and then started working for the Bavarian Radio . She became known in 1988 as the founder, editor and presenter of the first women's journal on German television ML Mona Lisa . For ZDF reports she was u. a. twice in Chechnya , reported from Croatian refugee camps on mass rape during the Bosnian war and worked as a reporter in the Gaza Strip and in India . From 1997 to 2000 Maria von Welser presented in the ZDF program Mit mir nicht! Welser's cases scandalous business practices, arbitrariness of the authorities or other abuses.
In 2001 she went to London as head of the ZDF foreign studio . On August 1, 2003, Maria von Welser moved to the top management of the North German Broadcasting Corporation , where she became director of the Hamburg State Broadcasting Corporation . The NDR announced on April 30, 2010 that she would retire on October 1, 2010. Her successor was Sabine Rossbach , who was previously the deputy director and head of the television program department at the NDR Landesfunkhaus Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In the summer of 2010, von Welser reported as East Asia correspondent for ARD.
Maria von Welser has been a member of the German Committee for UNICEF since 1995 and was elected deputy chairwoman of UNICEF Germany in April 2008. In addition, she first took on a teaching position at the University of Hamburg in 2010 . She has been teaching at the University of Paderborn since 2015 . She has also been Vice President of the Übersee Club in Hamburg since 2013 .
Private
Von Welser was a youth champion in giant slalom . It is since 1994 married his third wife with a now-retired Air Force - officer and has two grown sons.
